FURIOUS Project showcases sustainable furan-based polymers at the BIOPOL 2024 conference with keynotes and posters on innovative biopolymer applications.
BIOPOL2024 is an international conference on Bio-based and Biodegradable Polymers organised every two years by the BIOPOL research group of the University of Alicante.
This year, we were given the opportunity to disseminate the FURIOUS project at this prestigious conference. Our presence included a dedicated desk with a roll-up banner, a poster, and flyers on the project.
Keynote Presentations from FURIOUS partners
Our involvement at BIOPOL2024 features two significant keynote presentations. The first keynote, delivered by Nadia Lotti, focused on the potential of furan-based polymers as a sustainable solution for food packaging. This presentation, titled "Furan-based polymers: An interesting sustainable solution for food packaging", highlighted the environmental benefits and performance characteristics of these innovative materials.
The second keynote, presented by our project coordinator Debora Puglia, delved into the broader scope of the FURIOUS project. Her presentation, titled "FURIOUS: Materials, processing and end-of-life opportunities for 2,5-FDCA based polymers", covered the extensive research on materials, processing techniques, and sustainable end-of-life options for furan-based biopolymers. This talk provided valuable insights into how these materials can be utilized across various industries, emphasizing their potential to revolutionize packaging and beyond.
Poster Presentations from FURIOUS researchers
In addition to the keynotes, the FURIOUS project is also represented through two detailed poster presentations.
Alessandro Coatti presented his work on "Ecodesign and Processability Assessment of Novel Furan-Based Biopolymers for Innovative Applications". This poster showcased the latest advancements in the design and processability of furan-based biopolymers, emphasizing their applicability in creating sustainable and innovative products.
Ignacio Solaberrieta shared findings on "Effect of Accelerated UV Weathering Treatments on Novel Furan-Based Biopolymeric Films". This research focused on the durability and performance of furan-based films under UV exposure, highlighting their suitability for outdoor applications and packaging that require high resistance to weathering.
