The European Biomass Conference & Exhibition (EUBCE) is one of the premier events for showcasing advancements in bio-based technologies. This year, the FURIOUS project had the privilege of presenting at this esteemed conference, highlighting our strides in developing high-performance, sustainable materials.
FURIOUS Project Takes the Stage
We were honoured to be invited by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) to share our progress at the IBO.2 session of the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition. This opportunity placed us alongside other innovative projects such as PERFECOAT, THERMOFIRE, and the ELLIPSE Project. FURIOUS project coordinator, Debora Puglia, presented the latest insights into the FURIOUS project, emphasizing our contributions to the field of bio-based materials and their potential industrial applications.
Debora Puglia's presentation, FURIOUS project coordinator, underscored the significant advances our team has made in synthesizing versatile furan-based polymers. These materials are engineered to meet the rigorous demands of applications in packaging, automotive, and underwater environments. The audience was particularly interested in our approach to replacing fossil-derived monomers with renewable sources, a critical step towards more sustainable industrial processes.
Highlights from EUBCE 2024
The EUBCE 2024 was a vibrant hub of activity, with numerous sessions highlighting the transformative power of bio-based technologies. During the session on bio-based chemicals, moderated by Pilar Llorente Ruiz de Azua, projects like LUCRA, WASTE2FUNC, SuperBark, and BeonNAT shared their journeys toward commercialization. A key takeaway from this session was the tangible progress being made in the transition to bio-based chemicals, proving that a sustainable shift is not just theoretical but actively unfolding.
In another session, expertly moderated by Mónica Pérez-Cabero, project officer of FURIOUS, projects such as PERFECOAT, FURIOUS, THERMOFIRE CBE-JU, and ELLIPSE showcased their advancements in bio-based materials. This session highlighted how CBE JU is instrumental in scaling up high-performance industrial applications across Europe, supporting projects that drive the bioeconomy forward.
The Role of Bio-Based Innovations in Europe's Future
Nicoló Giacomuzzi-Moore, the Executive Director of CBE JU, provided a comprehensive overview of the European bioeconomy. In his address, he acknowledged the challenges faced by the sector but also pointed out the vast opportunities available. The development of new bio-based products is crucial for boosting EU competitiveness, and events like EUBCE play a vital role in fostering innovation and collaboration.
Looking Forward to innovating with furan-based polymers
The FURIOUS project is committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible with sustainable materials. Our participation in EUBCE 2024 not only highlights our progress but also reaffirms our dedication to leading the way in bio-based solutions that meet the highest industrial standards. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to advance our mission towards a more sustainable future.
